Press On to Know Him

Press On to Know Him

Oh that we might know the Lord. Let us press on to know him, and he will respond to us as surely as the coming of the dawn or the rain of early Spring.
Hosea 6:3, LB

Many people want to know God. Scripture says those that seek Him will find Him, when they search for Him with their whole heart. The Lord longs for us to know Him. He's made every provision for us to find Him and He's ready to respond to us.

He shows Himself through the beauty and diversity of the wonders of creation. Who has seen such magnificent colour and such intricate design? Who has seen the unquestionable order? Man can only copy it. I read about a scientist, a former atheist, who went climbing on an icy mountain. He came across a frozen waterfall. Its beauty astounded and humbled him. He fell on his knees and worshipped God.

When the astronaut James Irwin, of the Apollo 15 mission, looked back on the earth from space and saw the ‘living, blue, planet earth' that he called home, he was both humbled and impacted by the reality of God who created such a rare and precious jewel in the universe.

We can truly know God through knowing His Son. God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, showing His great love by dying for us, bringing healing and restoration to our lives. Jesus said that anyone who had seen Him had seen the Father in John 14:9. The Scriptures, His Word, speak the living truth about the Lord and show us the way to find Him, in a lost world. But even when we've found Him we still need to really get to know him.

When we receive Christ as our Saviour and make Him Lord of our lives, then God sends His Holy Spirit. He reveals God's glorious love to us and we begin to see His character and hear His voice. He shows us how to communicate with Him. We can really know him through His Spirit within us. We can also recognise Him in each other. Paul counts everything worthless compared to the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus, the Lord (Philippians 3:8, LB).

Prayer: Lord, Help me to really know You. I'm seeking You with my whole heart. Open my eyes to see Your glory. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
