They Are My Glory

They Are My Glory

And all of them, since they are mine, belong to you; and you have given them back to me with everything else of yours, and so they are my glory.

John 17:10, LB
Jesus says ‘and so they are my glory’. This is what we are - His own special people, His inheritance, His joy. The dictionary says glory is honour, praise, and magnificence. We may desire to bring Him all these things, but sometimes our lives and actions can bring Him the opposite. Sometimes we may bring Him shame.

But here’s the wonderful truth. In His grace and mercy He can take away that shame and sin as He forgives us. That’s why we should never give up or think that we’re not good enough. When we repent of our sins we become ‘His glory’ and we bring Him joy. I believe this is the joy that was set before Jesus talked about in Hebrews 12:2 (Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God).

We are Gods’ garden and we are His temple. He lives in us, ‘Your body does not belong to you. For God has bought you with a great price – so use every part of your body to give glory back to God, because he owns it’ (1 Corinthians 6:20).

Those of you who are teachers, coaches, mentors, pastors or helpers will all know the joy when those whose lives you influence do well. This brings a tribute to you. In the same way as parents and grandparents you have pride in them when they achieve something.

And so we, who belong to the Lord, are His glory. Even when we are weak His power and strength can shine through us and He is the one gets the glory. His prayer was, and is, that His joy may be fulfilled in us.

Prayer: May we see your glory, Lord, and may we be humbled by your mercy, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
